Part 2 – “Of Little faith”

on Dec 23, 2013

Toward the sunrise we walked.  Assured that it would rise, as it had without fail each day before.  What a mighty promise we entrusted our steps to.  That the sun would rise again, just like he had before.  With each we took upon the clear water the bottom of the lake faded further into the blackness.  We were far beyond the reach of the shore and too far to swim back.  The cost, you said, was that we would give our all to the endeavor.  You said we were tools not of this world but meant for it.  There was a majesty in every word you spoke, as if the same great force pushed us both towards the East.

Late into the darkness we walked.  The clouds had circled around us and blotted out the heavenly candles that had previously lighted our way.  We pressed on undeterred by the darkness and kept our path straight by walking directly into the wind which gathered strength against us.  I could barely see you  You were but an arms reach away and all but invisible.

As the wind grew it nearly overcame us, but we pressed on.  In response the wind sent with it the rain to strike against our faces and turn our hope in the coming promise to fear and doubt.  We did not waver.  For we walked on water by the promise of the coming son rise.  What could water do to us.  I smiled in that moment at that thought, for what could the rain do against the giver of life?  Could the wind blow out the mighty fire of God?  The clouds above shouted back at me, first with a flash of anger followed by a mighty war cry.  My heart froze in that second and I turned my head slightly against the rain.  I reached out to grasp you by the arm that you might guide me forward.  Instead I felt next step rest upon nothing and my face strike the water as I plunged beneath the surface and into the icy water.
