The Bottom of the Black

on Sep 29, 2010

I have been to the bottom of the black
I have tasted fruit from a forbidden tree
I have betrayed my King, my God
I have fallen, crushed, trodden underneath
He turned toward me, yet not in anger
His face marked with hope, forgiving me
The rotten fruit still on my lips,
Yet He spoke, “You’ve been redeemed.”

How great is Your mercy Father,
That You withhold Your wrath
How awesome is Your grace, my King,
That You pluck me from the black
My wretchedness cannot surpass
Your saving grace and holiness
For in Christ my Savior I am one
That I cannot fall beyond Your grace.

I still do not understand the cost
That it took to save so fallen a one as I
And grace poured out I will never fathom
Not here in this present life.

You are my Lord, my King, my God
You saved me from the fire
That by grace I may proclaim aloud
“I was dead, yet made alive!”
