Where I see you

on Sep 22, 2013

Each time I see your face, it’s always in the faces of others. I saw you in the eyes of that little girl as she reached out her arms to be lifted and held by her father. I saw you in the smile of the little boy as he laughed at the butterfly that landed on his hand. I heard your voice in that late night phone call of a man when he lost everything and longed only to not be forgotten. I touched your hand in that hospital bed and as she lay unconscious, life slowly slipping away. A grandmother to more than just her own, her frailty was only in this physical body. I spoke with you that day with the couple as they poured out their hearts. They were fighting to raise their family, but the money just wasn’t enough.  I felt you heart, as the mother opened her soul, her life torn apart by an affair and then divorce.  Abandoned by her church, she lost all hope.  But in all those, in the least of all these, I saw you!

You are so near. You are in the hearts and the faces of the orphans and the widows. You are with the lost and the homeless. You are surrounding the broken. And you are there when each breathes the last breath.

To know you and to stand close to you means standing close to those you chose to stand beside.

I am close to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit.
